How Corks Critter Care Home & Pet Sitting Services Works

There are several fantastic services we offer but before we do anything there are a few steps we must take to secure your booking and provide you with professional confidence in us before we start any job.  Please see our Services as well and familiarize yourself with the steps we take to confirm your bookings with an initial visit listed below.

Step 1: Before Your Departure

  • Call us a couple of days before your trip.
  • Call us two weeks before major holidays.
  • Phones are staffed from 8:00 AM until 6:00 PM Monday through Friday, and are monitored very closely over the weekend.
  • Phone calls and messages are returned within 24 hours (during office hours), creating a fast response time if you need immediate or emergency care for your pet. We have a 24-hour voice mail system in operation 365 days a year.
  • Regular pet sitting hours are between 8:00 AM and 8:00 PM.
  • Before-you-go checklist is a useful tool to be prepared for both yourself and the pet sitter.

Step 2: Initial Orientation Visit

  • Prior to contracted services, we will conduct an in-home visit with you to get familiar with your pet. Key pickup/payment agreement will be arranged at this point.
  • Get detailed information that we’ll need to keep your pets safe and happy. That information is then fed into a database so that we have a permanent record of your veterinarian, any medication that needs to be given while you’re gone, and any other special instructions you may have.
  • During the initial consultation, please try not to “force” your pet(s) to like the pet sitter. Some pets are shy and can’t be expected to warm up to a stranger immediately. With time and patience, a trust will build and a friendly relationship will be established.
  • Discuss other services such as plant watering, mail and newspaper handling, etc. to give your home a “lived-in” look—thereby providing crime deterrence for your home.
  • Pick up a key to your home or apartment.
    • Note: If the key is not available at the initial visit, there will be a $20 charge for key pick up.
  • During this visit, you decide how often you want your sitter to visit each day you’re away and what services you require. Also, please remit payment for services at the time of the initial meeting. Fees are based on the number and type of pets, services provided, distance to travel and the number of visits per day.
  • There is a $20 initial visit fee.

Step 3: Upon Your Return – Key Return

  • Call us when you return home. Please call our office at 403-807-6866 or email us to confirm that your pet(s) are back in your care and services will be discontinued.
  • We will return your key if desired or keep the key in a safe for the next time you’re in need of our services.
  • “Lock Box” account available. We can keep your key on file for free (in a secure location, with no address references attached) so you can have in-home care for your pet at a moment’s notice.


  • Must be made within 24 hours of your reserved time, otherwise, you will be charged the rates stated when the reservation was made. Please note reservations are not valid until they are confirmed verbally by a Corks Critter Care Home & Pet Sitting Services representative.
